Purpose
This activity is intended to enable the learner to expand expertise in hemophilia management and clinical decision making through the use of current literature and best practice review, case study analysis, professional networking, and other methods intended to increase quality of nursing care for persons with hemophilia treated within the federally recognized U.S. Hemophilia Treatment Center Network (USHTCN).
Objectives
At the conclusion of this live activity, the participants should be better able to:
- Discuss foundational principles and common approaches to factor prophylaxis in hemophilia
- Discuss current practices and practical considerations regarding the use of emicizumab by patients with hemophilia A
- Characterize inhibitor development, risk factors, and treatment methods for hemophilia A, hemophilia B, mild hemophilia, and acquired hemophilia
- Describe common approaches to immune tolerance induction therapy
- Survey therapeutic products currently in development for hemophilia management
- Discuss orthopedic challenges and interventions for individuals with hemophilia and how the team collaborates to integrate orthopedic interventions
Target Audience
Hemophilia treatment center nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists who have treated persons with hemophilia for at least 2 years
Continuing Education
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
ANCC Credits will be offered.
Eligibility Criteria
To attend this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be employed at a U.S. federally funded HTC as a nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or similar role for at least 2 years.
- Obtain approval to attend from Regional Coordinator via automated process upon submission of application.

Cost and Travel Information
- There is no registration fee to attend Advanced Topics II for the Nursing Care Team.
- Once registered, you will be contacted approximately 4 weeks before the program with instructions on scheduling your flight or rental car. All registrants are encouraged to read the Partners Travel Policy to understand costs that are covered and costs that you may incur.
- The Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program is supported by educational grants from Genentech, a member of the Roche Group; and Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc. Travel and lodging for program participants are made possible by an at-will contribution from the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center.
