Purpose
To enable the learner to expand upon knowledge of blood disorders and to increase competency to practice sound clinical decision making, as derived from evidence-based education, standardized guidelines, case study evaluation, and methods intended to raise nursing care quality for persons with blood disorders treated within the federally recognized U.S. Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) Network
Objectives
Upon completion of this learning activity, you will be able to:
- Discuss clinical presentation, laboratory evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of rare blood disorders including von Willebrand disease (VWD), rare bleeding disorders, thrombosis/thrombophilia, and platelet disorders
- Utilize accessible information and data on treatment products and protocols in clinical management of rare bleeding disorders
- Analyze common clinical scenarios involving persons with rare blood disorders
- Develop a professional network of nurses from U.S. hemophilia treatment centers to enhance patient care and optimize outcomes
Target Audience
Nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who currently are, and have been practicing for at least 2 years in the U.S. Hemophilia Treatment Center Network, and wish to gain knowledge and competence of blood disorders diagnosis and management
Continuing Education
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Eligibility Criteria
To attend this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be employed at a U.S. federally funded HTC as a nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or similar role for at least 2 years.
- Obtain approval to attend from Regional Coordinator via automated process upon submission of application.
Cost and Travel Information
There is no registration fee to attend Advanced Nursing Topics II.
Funding to support the Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program is provided through an unrestricted educational grant from Shire. The Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program: Advanced Nursing Topics I is supported by an educational grant from Genentech. Travel and lodging for program participants are made possible by an at-will contribution from the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center./p>
