Purpose
To enable participants, psychosocial professionals engaged as core team members of the multidisciplinary hemophilia comprehensive care team, to develop knowledge and competence to provide high quality psychosocial care for persons with bleeding disorders.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this live activity, the participants should be better able to:
- Discuss the expanded role of the social worker on the multidisciplinary comprehensive care team
- Demonstrate understanding of hemophilia, its genetics, pathophysiology, complications, treatment, and psychosocial impact
- Recommend ways to improve skills in the assessment and management of hemophilia and its complications including psychosocial issues related to coping, adherence, and quality of life
- Foster a culturally sensitive, family-centered approach to care
- Develop a professional mentoring network within the federally-recognized U.S. hemophilia treatment center network
Target Audience
Social workers and other psychosocial professionals who currently are and have been caring for persons with bleeding disorders in the federally-recognized U.S. hemophilia treatment center network for at least 6 months.
Continuing Education
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, University of Nebraska Medical Center is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. University of Nebraska Medical Center maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive up to 10.25 continuing education credits.
Eligibility Criteria
To attend this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be employed at a U.S federally funded HTC in a bleeding disorder patient-facing role for a recommended six (6) months to one (1) year.
- Obtain approval to attend from Regional Coordinator via automated process upon submission of application.
Cost and Travel Information
There is no registration fee to attend Basic Partners.
The Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program is supported by an educational grant from Genentech, a member of the Roche Group. Travel and lodging for program participants are made possible by an at-will contribution from the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center.
Once registered, you will be contacted approximately 4 weeks before the program with instructions on scheduling your flight or rental car.
