Purpose
To enable the learner to increase expertise in blood disorders and to gain competence to practice sound clinical decision making, as derived from evidence-based education, standardized guidelines, case study evaluation, and methods intended to elevate clinical care quality and outcomes for persons with blood disorders treated within the federally recognized U.S. Hemophilia Treatment Center Network (USHTCN).
Objectives
At the conclusion of this live activity, the participants should be better able to:
- Discuss clinical presentation, laboratory evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of rare blood disorders including von Willebrand disease (VWD), rare bleeding disorders, thrombosis/thrombophilia, and platelet disorders
- Utilize available information and data involving treatment products and protocols in clinical management of rare bleeding disorders
- Analyze nursing care team considerations related to common clinical scenarios involving persons with rare blood disorders
- Expand the professional networks of providers from U.S. hemophilia treatment centers to enhance clinical care quality and outcomes for persons with blood disorders treated by U.S. Hemophilia Treatment Centers
Target Audience
Intended for the nursing care team involving nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists who currently are, and have been practicing for at least 2 years in the U.S. HTC network, and wish to gain knowledge and competence in diagnosis and management of blood disorders.
Continuing Education
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
ANCC Credits will be offered.
Eligibility Criteria
To attend this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be employed at a U.S. federally funded HTC as a nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or similar role for at least 2 years. .
- Obtain approval to attend from Regional Coordinator via automated process upon submission of application.

Cost and Travel Information
- There is no registration fee to attend Advanced Topics II for the Nursing Care Team.
- Once registered, you will be contacted approximately 4 weeks before the program with instructions on scheduling your flight or rental car. All registrants are encouraged to read the Partners Travel Policy to understand costs that are covered and costs that you may incur.
- The Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program is supported by educational grants from Genentech, a member of the Roche Group; and Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc. Travel and lodging for program participants are made possible by an at-will contribution from the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center.
