Purpose
To enable the learner to strengthen the knowledge and skills needed to care for patients with bleeding disorders, using the comprehensive care team framework
Objectives
Upon completion of this learning activity, you will be able to:
- Describe the pathophysiology of hemophilia, its underlying genetics, basic treatments and possible complications
- Perform evidence-based assessment and management techniques during bleeding episodes and other complications associated with hemophilia
- Foster a family-centered approach while caring for patients with hemophilia
- Connect to the network of federally recognized comprehensive hemophilia treatment centers (HTCs) to expand local access to specialized hemophilia resources and services
- Describe how the learning objectives for each session have improved your ability to care for patients with bleeding disorders
Target Audience
Bleeding disorders health care providers in the U.S. federally funded network of HTCs, including nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, social workers and other providers who care for patients with bleeding and other coagulation disorders
Continuing Education
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Eligibility Criteria
To attend this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be employed at a U.S federally funded HTC in a bleeding disorder patient-facing role for a recommended six (6) months to one (1) year.
- Obtain approval to attend from Regional Coordinator via automated process upon submission of application.
Cost and Travel Information
There is no registration fee to attend Basic Partners.
The Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program is supported by an educational grant from Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc. Travel and lodging for program participants are made possible by an at-will contribution from the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center.
Once registered, you will be contacted approximately 4 weeks before the program with instructions on scheduling your flight or rental car.
