Purpose
The Advanced Topics I for the Nursing Care Team aims to enable the learner to expand upon the basic hemophilia management knowledge base including pharmacological treatments, using current literature and best practice review, case study analysis, professional networking, and methods designed to raise care quality for persons with hemophilia treated within the federally recognized U.S. Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) network.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this live activity, the participants should be better able to:
- Identify care considerations for women and girls related to carrier and hemophilia status
- Discuss foundational principles and common approaches to prophylaxis in hemophilia
- Discuss current practices and practical considerations regarding the use of non-factor therapies in hemophilia
- Characterize inhibitor development, risk factors, and treatment methods for non-severe hemophilia A, hemophilia B, and acquired hemophilia
- Describe common approaches to immune tolerance induction therapy
- Survey therapeutic products currently in development for hemophilia management
- Discuss orthopedic challenges and interventions for individuals with hemophilia and how the team collaborates to integrate orthopedic interventions
Target Audience
Hemophilia treatment center nurses, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team who have treated persons with bleeding disorders for at least two (2) years.
Continuing Education
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Program. University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
ANCC credits will be offered.

Eligibility Criteria
To attend this activity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be employed at a U.S. federally recognized HTC as a nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, pharmacist, or similar role for at least two (2) years.
- Obtain approval to attend from Regional Administrator via automated process upon submission of application.
- Apply for this program by completing the Application Form.
Cost and Travel Information
- There is no registration fee to attend a Partners Program.
- Once registered, you will be contacted at least 4 weeks before the program with logistical details, including air and ground transportation and hotel information. All registrants are encouraged to read the Partners Travel Policy to understand costs that are covered and costs that you may incur.
- Partners in Bleeding Disorders Education Programs are supported by education grant(s) from the following entities: Cascade Hemophilia Consortium; Sanofi; Genentech, a member of the Roche Group; Pfizer; and the Indiana Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center (IHTC).
